My friends pick on me because my closet is decorated. I'll admit I'm a bit obsessed with a decorated closet. I know some of you are kindred spirits so I had to pass on this clever idea. I have a few shopping bags that I've never been able to throw away including one very special pretty blue one and some from perfume shops in Paris. Now I need to find some inexpensive frames so I can utilize my newly discovered free art for the closet.
I really love the idea of a framed picture in the closet anyway. Do you have something hanging in your closet that makes you smile as you get dressed in the morning?
What a cute idea! I have some (okay, LOTS) of shopping bags stored in my pantry that I won't part with and won't reuse - some from Paris and Italy that are very pretty. Maybe I could try framing and hanging a few in my way too small closet that I share with my husband...I'll have to sort through my bags and see what I find.
Adrienne-Glad I'm not the only one who has trouble parting with them. :) Let me know how it goes!
I don't have any fancy shopping bags, but I think the idea is neat. I have lots of pics of model home closets that I thought were painted/decorated so pretty. Maybe someday...
In my closet, the only decor I have is a metal board from the 1930s called a "bedroom mood meter"...a funny board with spinners that pokes fun at marital communication.
Elizabeth-Ha! I missed that on the house tour!
I've kept bags from memorable shopping trips, and this is a cute way of decorating with them in your closet in a private, just-for-you space.
There's nothing more inviting than an organized, pretty closet! Why wouldn't you decorate it? We have an ugly light fixture in ours, but on my 2012 DIY list is sourcing a pretty chandelier at a vintage flea market to hang in the closet.
That's so clever and pretty! I reuse my shopping bags as gift bags (most of mine are from Anthro, and I love their bags). I haven't been able to part with my Stella McCartney for GapKids bag, though -- maybe I should frame it and put it in my kids' room!
Omg, love this idea!! I can't bear to part with certain shopping bags either but never knew what to do with them. Gonna try this today!!
Great idea--I love it! xxBliss
Pardon me but, designer bags are so...uhhh...well designed. They are works of art in themselves. Now I know just what to do with my beautiful little blue bag from Tiffany's, my precious white and black bag from Chanel and my shiny little gold bag from Godiva's. I knew I'd never throw them away. Framing them is just what they deserve. Have we changed that much from when we were kids and enjoyed the box as much as, if not more than, the toy? Thank you for the perfect idea :)
I forgot to sign my comment that I entered earlier, anonymously - Jane
looks so pretty. i have bags saved that i want to frame in some way for a kids room.
Love this and it looks really chic! Plus we all have those great bags we don't want to get rid of (I think I have the Louis Vuitton bag I bought my first purse in). Somehow it seems a crime to get rid of it. If I ever have a larger closet I might just use this idea :)
Sara-Let me know if you do it. You need to post pics of your British house anyway.
Jennifer-I'm glad you like it. Isn't it weird that we can't let go of those bags even after all the decluttering we do.
:) Thanks girls for the comments.
Such a pretty idea. And, yes I like to decorate my closet, too. Actually with empty clear/white perfume bottles and one wall features old photographs of my childhood and my two grandma's.
Others keep the paper bags of the shops or boutiques that they go to, especially when they can only rarely afford purchasing an item there. There are also those who like to keep the bags as a token when a special someone gives him/her a present. The style by which the paper bags were arranged on the wall is a good idea, thanks for sharing!
